How researchers track peregrine falcons

ST. LOUIS – Thanks to local researchers, you can now follow the lives of a falcon family of four.

Researchers from Ameren Missouri and the Missouri Department of Conservation placed tracking bands on peregrine falcon chicks at the World Bird Sanctuary on Friday to follow their movement.

Information from these bands is sent to the U.S. Geological Survey and is entered into a nationwide database. Each band can be identified by its specific color, letter and number.

The birds' movement helps researchers determine migratory patterns and identify reasons leading to drastic population loss.
