Illinois sex offender captured in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) - An alleged sex offender from Illinois has been arrested by a fugitive task force in Puerto Rico, U.S. authorities in the Caribbean territory said Tuesday.

The U.S. Marshals Service said that fugitive Peter Sanchez was apprehended without incident at a restaurant in the western town of Aguadilla. The marshals led the Puerto Rico Violent Offenders Fugitive Task Force in making the arrest.

Sanchez is charged with five counts of aggravated felony sexual assault in Winnebago County, Illinois. The alleged victims are two minors.

Authorities say Sanchez was indicted in June but allegedly fled Illinois for Puerto Rico.

It was not immediately clear if Sanchez has a lawyer.
