Inmates, dogs help heal one another

ST. LOUIS - St. Louis Blues Barrett Jackman, with Stray Rescue, and David Backes, who started Athletes for Animals, don't come around the Missouri Eastern Correctional Center that often, but because of some special special dogs, they were there Wednesday.

The dogs are being trained a different way in this correctional facility. The dogs are all being trained by inmates, and then put for adoption.

Nine dogs were adopted Wednesday, and 2,714 dogs have been trained over the last four years.

Dogs who have neglected or terrorized are going to places where they will be loved, all of them.

The only sad part is, the inmates have grown so attached their dogs over the last 12 weeks.

At the end of the day, NewsChannel 5 saw a great scene, Kate Slay, the daughter of Mayor Slay, was putting one of these adorable dogs into her car. She was thrilled and so was the dog.
