ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - A Florida daycare center fires two workers after they mistakenly locked a child inside the Orange County facility over the weekend.
Orange County deputies said a mother found her child alone inside a locked day care facility early Saturday morning. The fire department helped get the 4-year-old boy out of the Kids R Kids Learning Academy in Waterford Lakes.
On the daycare's Facebook page, one person wondered, "How could this happen?" The facility responded, this was an unfortunate mishap and we are putting a plan together.
The owner, Jose Diaz told WFTV it was a miscommunication between two staff members during a closing process. The teachers at fault have been fired.
The childcare facility had a parents' night out event. They would watch the kids while parents enjoyed time to themselves, but when the mom arrived late, she found the doors locked and the lights out. She called the sheriffs' office.
WFTV did some digging into the facility's past. A routine inspection from February showed the daycare met all requirements and were in compliance when DCF inspected.
The daycare owner says the parent's night out event has been suspended until staffers undergo additional training.
