Letter cites tension between fire district, Bridgeton landfill owners

KSDK - NewsChannel 5 has obtained a letter sent by the owners of the Bridgeton Landfill to the Pattonville Fire Protection District.

The letter requests a new liaison between the fire district and Republic Services.

Assistant Fire Chief Matt LaVanchy is the liaison, but the letter says "In recent months, the relationship with Chief LaVanchy has deteriorated to the point where it is no longer productive."

It goes on to say "Chief LaVanchy has posted theories and rumors on social media, and shared the same with the television news media, creating unnecessary fear and panic amongst the surrounding community."

In the past, NewsChannel 5 has spoken with LaVanchy at the Bridgeton Landfill.

We reached out to Pattonville's chief, who says his department is working on an official response, and it should be available next week.
