Local Boy Scout unveils monument for veterans

DARDENNE PRAIRIE, Mo. (KSDK) – Two years and $18,000 later, a local Eagle Scout candidate's dream became a reality Saturday outside of Dardenne Prairie city hall.

Bryan Ritchey wanted to build a monument to honor servicemen – both past and present – for their bravery, dedication, service and sacrifice.

The Barat Academy freshman was able to raise the money through flag sales and fundraisers.

"Honoring our service members has been something that's been with me through my childhood," Richey said. "My dad and I approached men and women in uniform, shook their hand and showed our appreciation. So, I wanted to do something to honor them."

The monument was unveiled at noon on Saturday.
