Local woman sentenced for forcing women into prostitution

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – A 27-year-old Breckenridge Hills woman faces a decade in prison for forcing multiple women to become prostitutes – and physically assaulting them and depriving them of food and water in the process.

Carla Matthews and her co-conspirator – 33-year-old Carl Matthews – allegedly recruited multiple women to serve as sex workers in the St. Louis metro area. She took them to various hotels for commercial sex dates and pocketed the money for herself. As a method of control, Carla and Carl Matthews took away the women's food stamp cards, and deprived them of food and drink.

She also provided the victims with MDMA and clothing before their commercial sex dates.

Carla Matthews pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit sex tracking by force, fraud or coercion last October. Carl Matthews also faces 10 years in prison.
