11 arrested during Peabody Energy protests

CLAYTON, Mo. - Police arrested 11 protesters Thursday during a demonstration outside Peabody Energy's shareholders meeting in Clayton.

Demonstrators support a ballot measure that would end tax breaks for fossil fuel companies.

Peabody released the following statement:

Peabody Energy's Annual Meeting is for the benefit of our shareholders and should not be a forum for organizations to advance their own agendas or to perpetuate myths about coal. We respect everyone's right to free speech, however, the fact of the matter is that many of the statements echoed by these individuals have been shown to clearly be false and inhibit the progress in energy access and clean coal solutions that we work for every day.
