80-year-old facing charges after death of MoDOT worker

New information on the death of a MoDOT worker.

An 80-year-old man is now facing charges in the death of a MoDOT worker.

Lyndon Ebker, 55, was killed in April while he was working in a construction zone on Highway 100 in Franklin County.

Norman E. Haimila, 80, of Hermann is now facing charges of second-degree assault and driving without insurance in connection with the death.

According to charging documents, Haimila decided to pass a MoDOT dump truck in a work zone that was properly set up with road signs. Officers have determined he was recklessly traveling through the work zone when he hit Ebker, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Haimila remained on the scene and cooperated with officers.

A warrant for Haimila's arrest was issued Wednesday.
