ACLU wants STL County FBI probe made public

ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KSDK) - The American Civil Liberties Union will be in St. Louis County Circuit Court Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.

The ACLU wants St. Louis County to release an FBI investigation regarding an embezzlement case. The ACLU filed suit last week against the county and alleged the county denied a sunshine law request for records regarding an embezzlement case.

The suspect in that case, Ed Mueth, committed suicide last year. Mueth was a high-ranking member of the health department. Authorities say he created a company under a fake name to win pricey county contracts. He's accused of embezzling tens of thousands of dollars.

In a letter to St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley, U.S. Attorney Richard Callahan said the county did not have the authority to release any FBI reports in this case.
