Alton NAACP to give 1,000 students free school supplies

ALTON, IL – The NAACP's Alton branch will hold its annual Back-to-School/Stay-in-School program on August 9.

The program will start at 10:00 a.m. at James Killian Park at Salu in Alton.

This year's program will be giving 1,000 students free school supplies for the upcoming school year. Students who attend the event will also receive a free picnic lunch and a motivational program that explains why it's a good idea to attend school and stay in school.

The event will also feature Annie Brave as a keynote speaker. Brave was named the 2011 Illinois Teacher of the Year.
