MetroLink service resumes after ruptured gas line in Belleville

The leak shut down MetroLink stations around the area and evacuated an apartment complex.

BELLEVILLE, ILL. - A Belleville, Illinois,  eight apartment units and one home were evacuated Monday after a gas line was ruptured, the Belleville Fire Department said.

According to a tweet at around 3 p.m., the gas line was ruptured near the intersection of N Church Street and Bristow Street.

In addition to evacuating an apartment building, the MetroLink trains were shut down for about an hour. The gas line was ruptured just 25 feet from the Metro tracks causing the closure. The trains were back on normal schedule as of 5 p.m.

A spokesman for the Belleville Fire Department said Ameren is on the way to the scene and hope to have the problem solved by 5 p.m.
