Body found at Springfield garbage collection site

Springfield police are investigating after the body of a male was found this morning at a garbage collection business, an official said.

The criminal investigations team is being called in, said Lisa Cox, the police spokeswoman.

Cox said the body was reported at 10:36 a.m. at the transfer station of WCA Waste Corp., 2120 W. Bennett St. She said it was unclear how long the body had been there.

Lt. Brian Phillips said the body was found in a pile of debris by an employee of WCA.

A person who answered the phone at WCA said no one was available to talk to the News-Leader.

The front entrance of the business is surrounded by yellow crime scene tape. Additional tape is around what appears to be a large unloading bay of the facility. A police car is parked in the unloading bay.
