Boeing reaches tentative agreement with union over Super Hornet

ST. LOUIS – A tentative agreement has been reached between Boeing and the machinists' union in St. Louis that would lower the costs for making fighter jets in St. Louis.

The agreement could also help avoid layoffs.

The F/A-18 Super Hornet program is scheduled to end production in 2016, but Boeing hopes to keep the line going longer if it can sell jets to the U.S. Navy at a lower cost.

A vote on the contract is expected Sunday.
