Clayton father killed in hit and run

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Police are investigating what caused a driver to speed near a north St. Louis intersection - killing a well-known Clayton man.

The victim was identified as 54-year-old Rick Beard. Beard had a very successful career. He served as a second lieutenant airborne ranger in the Army. Beard also graduated with an MBA from Harvard University. He started Cardinal Investment Advisors, a local firm that now manages more than $80 billion in assets.

In addition to his career success, Beard was known as a devoted father of two and husband of 23 years. Police say Beard was cycling on Sarah Street near Cook Avenue Friday night when he was hit and killed by a driver. He was dressed in full cycling gear with reflectors. Investigators have not ruled out drag racing as a cause for the speeding in this crash.

Investigators recovered a car about a mile away from where the accident took place.

They believe the vehicle was involved in the accident. No arrests have been made. If you have any information on a possible suspect, you're asked to call police.
