CLAYTON, MO. - It'll soon cost you more to park on the street in Clayton during business hours.
Meter parking is increasing from $1 per hour to $1.50. Fines for parking violations are also going up.
The city says the changes are being made "in an attempt to discourage long term parking in front of short term uses such as retail shops and restaurants."
A recent survey contracted by the city concluded there is ample parking available, but the city should try to redirect long-term parkers into garages and spots not on the street.
The changes are going into effect on Monday, November 28. Street parking will remain free after 5 p.m. on weeknights, as well as on weekends and holidays.
A pay-by-phone parking app is also on track to be implemented by the beginning of 2017.
