County council passes Complete Streets ordinance

ST. LOUIS COUNTY – The St. Louis County Council passed an ordinance Tuesday to help make the county more walkable, bikable, and transit-friendly.

The ordinance, called Complete Streets, will allow the county's planning, parks and recreation, and health departments to have input in the transportation system, helping link people to locations. Municipal leaders and stakeholder groups will also participate in setting goals and priorities for the area.

The bill was first introduced in October, and went through several revisions after questions and concerns were raised. The final version does not comprise of everything Trailnet wanted included.

More than 500 other communities in the country have Complete Streets ordinances.
