Crews prepare for heat ahead of Michael Brown funeral

St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - Keeping the crowds safe is a top priority Monday outside the funeral for Michael Brown.

EMS crews are expecting hundreds of people to be waiting outside to get into the service and that means dealing with possible triple digit temps.

We are told that extra EMS crews will be stationed around Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church for the funeral.

Their plan is still in the works, but they know after dealing with this weekend's temperatures they may have some heat related illnesses.

"I think if you have some water and you have these sprinklers, I think you will be fine," says Katina Wynn.

She and her grandkids came out to PeaceFest Sunday in Forest Park to support the community and to get some answers.

"We need schools change, we need jobs changed as far as trying to get them," says Wynn.

While hundreds tried their hardest to stay cool at PeaceFest, others in Forest Park were trying to determine what exactly made them leave their air conditioned homes.

"I have no better sense," says Jason Mcgee who was out for a Sunday stroll.

He says he's stopping often and knows when he's pushed himself too far.

"Stop sweating basically, I know when I can tell too close to getting to overheating so I do find some shade somewhere," says Mcgee.

Since Friday, several people have fallen victim to the dangerous heat. In St. Louis County at least 26 people have been treated, 4 of those hospitalized. In St. Louis city, 8 people have suffered an heat related illness and 4 have been admitted to local hospitals.

"Feels like summer, we've been spoiled," says golfer Mike McKee. Still, this father-son duo isn't letting the heat and humidity ruin their golf game.

"As long as you are riding on the cart, catching the breeze it's not that bad," says Cal McKee.

"I think I'm really stupid because I am out here!" says Mike McKee.

The city health director says she is recommending you try to get inside the air conditioning for 15 minutes every hour.

If you are going to the funeral Monday morning be sure to bring water in case you have to wait outside.
