Daughter of missing St. Louis postal worker seeks answers

A St. Louis postal worker is missing and family members are on a mission to find her.

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KSDK) - A St. Louis postal worker is missing. East St. Louis Police, St. Louis Metropolitan Police, and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service are investigating what happened to 49-year-old Melanie Tally.

Tally's daughter, Tiffany Smith, says she and her mom are close.

"We used to hang out, go to the movies, she loves to go eat," Smith said. "Through ups and downs, my mother has been there to just pick me up, wipe my tears."

Smith says her mom works at the post office on 17th St. and Market St. in downtown St. Louis. She says it's the last place anyone saw her.

"She was last seen Sunday, April 23," Smith said.

Smith says Tally, a mail handler, left work in a 2008 Dodge Avenger. She says Tally may have been heading home. Tally's home is located in the Emerson Park area in East St. Louis. As days went on without a word from her mom, Smith grew concerned. She checked in with Tally's coworkers.

"They were like, she hasn't called in for work either and I was like uh oh that's not like her, not to call in for work," Smith said.

With few clues left behind, Smith is on a mission to find her.

"We made flyers," she said. "We post them everywhere we could."

It's a daunting task, but Smith isn't giving up.

"I wouldn't wish this on anyone," she said. "Just trusting and believing. Can't lose faith now."

She says her mom wears glasses and has a scar on her chest.

"If you see my mom, please, please call the detectives, call the police station," Smith said. "We miss her and we love her and we just want to, you know, see her home."

East St. Louis Police say a group of officers searched all over the city for Melanie on Thursday but they found no signs of her or her Dodge Avenger. Smith says Melanie's phone was found at her house. If you know anything, call CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS.
