A movement to bring the Delta Queen back to the Mississippi River moved one step closer as the Delta Queen Steamboat Company opened a new headquarters and Restaurant in Kimmswick, Missouri, Monday.
The steamboat last cruised the Mississippi 10 years ago, but legislation approved by the senate commission this summer started the movement to bring the boat back to the river in Kimmswick.
Corperate offices and the Port of Call Restaurant and gift shop opened Monday bringing 185 new jobs for area residents, a press release from the company said.
The Delta Queen Steamboat Company is still awaiting further political action — a congressional exemption — to allow the boat to reenter the water.
