Dump the Pump Day encourages public transit use

ST. LOUIS - National Dump the Pump Day encourages you to leave the car at home and find another way to get to work. Public transportation is one of those options. In St. Louis, 150,000 people use public transportation each weekday.

According to the American Public Transportation Association, people in a two person household can save $10,000 a year when they downsize by one car and take public transit instead.

Not to mention, gas prices are on the rise, partly because of the situation in Iraq. AAA says expect to pay anywhere between $3.60 and $3.70 a gallon "for a while" in St. Louis. In Southern Illinois, you can expect to pay anywhere from $3.79 to $3.99 a gallon.
