Edward Jones Dome evacuated after gas smell detected

ST. LOUIS – The Edward Jones Dome has been evacuated after the smell of gas was detected.

Approximately 12,000 people were attending a skincare and beauty convention at the Dome.

Around 9 p.m. people in the top area of the Dome started to smell a burning plastic smell, then gas, so they started self-evacuating. The people who were leaving the Dome then texted their friends who were in the lower level because the smell had not reached those people.

The convention attendees are now standing around on the streets.

Once everyone was outside St. Louis firefighters went into the Dome and shut off the gas. Firefighters did notice the odor, but were unable to detect any gas. They believe the odor came from outside the Dome.

Lacelede Gas is now at the scene attempting to find the source of the odor.

The Dome is closed for now, but officials are confident it will reopen Saturday.

Two people were transported to an area hospital for undescribed symptoms. Authorities say their injuries are non-life threatening.
