The next governor of Missouri will be Republican Eric Greitens.
It’s been a hard-fought bitter battle for Missouri’s top office, with more money being funneled into the race than any other gubernatorial matchup this election cycle.
Heading into Election Day, the race was polling too close to call, but Tuesday Greitens pulled ahead.
Greitens, a former Navy SEAL officer, branded himself as a political outsider and focused his campaign largely on his military record, his work on his foundation The Mission Continues, and a pledge to fight corruption in the state's Capitol.
Greitens will take the seat vacated by Democratic Governor Jay Nixon who reached his term limit after serving for eight years.
