Ferguson-Florissant group picks candidates

ST. LOUIS COUNTY - A group pushing for change in the Ferguson-Florissant School District introduced its three candidates for the upcoming school board election.

The Citizens' Task Force on Quality in Education has been meeting since the Board suspended Superintendent Dr. Art McCoy last November. They're calling this the "Grade A for Change Slate."

It includes Reverend F. Willis Johnson, PTO member James Savala, and retired principal Doctor Donna Thurman.

"The handling of Dr. McCoy's suspension was kind of like when you have an illness and you don't know that you're sick until the symptom comes up. Then you realize how sick you really are. So I think that was a catalyst for us to organize and come up with this slate," said Alfred Long, Sr.

NewsChannel 5 spoke with school board President Paul Morris. He says the Task Force is making decisions without knowing all of the facts, and if they knew the facts their stance would probably change.

The election is April 8.
