'Fire challenge' sparks concern with firefighters

ST. LOUIS - Videos of teens setting themselves on fire are going viral on the Internet, and they are making St. Louis area firefighters nervous.

Children are getting hurt and dying from the burn injuries in the "Fire Challenge" across the country.

The Lincoln County Fire Marshal said children pour gasoline, or other flammable liquids, on themselves in the shower then light themselves on fire.

"We shouldn't have to ask people not to light themselves on fire, but we're asking them not to light themselves on fire. It's just stupidity, they're setting themselves on fire for no reason whether it's to prove they are tough or to get a viral video its nuts" Fire Marshal Barry Nuss said.

He said his biggest concern is burn injuries. He said so far there are no incidents in Lincoln County. He said he's been spreading awareness in his county to get ahead of the problem before a teenager decides to do it.
