Fire destroys East St. Louis meat market

A massive fire broke out Tuesday morning at the Highway 15 Meat Market in East St. Louis.

EAST ST. LOUIS, ILL. - East St. Louis Fire Department responded to a fire at Highway 15 Market at around 7:30 Tuesday morning during rush hour.

The 24-7 convenience store is on 15th Street and Market Ave., a busy intersection.

Two employees were inside at the time. They noticed the fire in the kitchen area. They tried to extinguish the fire themselves but it got out of control so they called 911.

When firefighters arrived, they saw flames going through the roof.

Illinois State Fire Marshal investigating cause of the fire.
