ST. LOUIS COUNTY - A fire in a building near the Lambert- St. Louis International Airport Monday morning sent a plume of dark smoke into the air.
The call came in around 10:35 a.m. for a fire near the Airport Marriott.
According to the hotel manager, a contractor was working on an old HVAC unit in the rear of the hotel. He was using cutting torches when the rubber on the inside of the unit caught fire.
Battalion Chief Dave Peters says the fire never made it inside the building, but some smoke did. Luckily, there was no smoke damage inside the building.
No one was injured in the blaze. The hotel guests were temporarily evacuated as a precaution.
