Fireworks inside vehicle cause highway accident

ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KSDK) – Three people were seriously injured Wednesday morning in an accident on Interstate 270.

The accident happened at 6:10 a.m. at Clayton Road.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, 43-year-old Kara A. Koriath was driving a 2008 GMC Acadia when fireworks were ignited inside the vehicle, causing Koriath to lose control.

The Acadia traveled off the right side of the road, hitting the guardrail and two road signs. Koriath, a 16-year-old boy, and a 13-year-old boy were seriously injured in the accident.

Koriath has been charged with felony driving while intoxicated (drug), second-degree assault, and child endangerment.
