Five people hurt in north city shooting

Five people are hurt after a shooting in North St. Louis.

The shooting occurred a little before 2:00 pm Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Ruskin and Thekla avenues.

According to police, 20 to 30 men began fighting. Shortly, after five victims, ranging in age from 15 to 27 were shot.

The 15-year-old was shot multiple times in the back and was transported to the hospital in critical, but stable condition. The other four people are expected to live.

The gunman is still at large. The names of the victims of have not been released.

Deborah Irving, first lady of nearby Union Chapel Church, said her congregation was having service during the shooting. She said she was disappointed another violent crime happened in their neighborhood.

"We're destroying our own selves and it's just got to stop," Irving said.
