Forest Park v. Arch grounds – Better location for Fair St. Louis

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - For the most part, fairgoers we spoke with say they didn't know what to expect trying to get to Forest Park, or trying to get to the fairgrounds once they got to the park. But something they all say they knew they'd get was food and fun.

"I love the way they pulled it off, though. It looks great. I looked like oh my goodness, this is crazy," says Michelle Smith.

"We had to park over by the hospital. We had to take a shuttle. And we had to do quite a bit of walking for a couple of miles to actually find the fair. So it's been difficult," says Matt Miller.

For Miller and his family, the day got off to a rocky start.

"...still been a good experience...just the kids are struggling a little bit."

Erin Whitham and Emily Deffner had a different kind of struggle: trying to find their favorite fair food.

"Chicken on a stick is what we're most looking forward to," Whitham says.

Emily is from St. Louis, but she and Erin now live in Oklahoma City. They're driving across the country to Philadelphia and stopped here. And they weren't leaving until they got their chicken on a stick.

But not just any chicken on a stick - it had to be fried.

"You have your funnel cake, but all of those things are not as accessible. Chicken on a stick, you can still enjoy the fair. You can go around to different things and hold it. You can take a bite if you need to," says Whitham.

For some, Friday was a test run.

"I'm here to just check it out, get the feel of everything: the people, the food, the whole environment so I can know where to go so I can go straight to the place I need to go to tomorrow," Michelle Smith says.

The people we talked to who had problems with the parking and navigating the park all took it with a smile and say now they know what not to do next time.
