Friends are remembering a Belleville teen who drowned while swimming at a beach near Rolla, Missouri, this weekend.
On Saturday, Missouri State Highway Patrol says 18-year old Kalon D. Green was swimming at Fugitive Beach. Troopers said Green went down a slide into the water but never resurfaced.
Troopers say lifeguards pulled Green from the water and administered CPR. The teen later died at an area hospital.
School district officials confirm Green just graduated from Belleville East High School. His former classmates describe him as a hard-working student with a great sense of humor.
“He was a good person who was always focused on school, trying to graduate,” said fellow graduate, Nicholas Hahn.
Kaymon Taylor said he rode the bus with Green, and shared several classes.
“Every time we’d go in class, we’d just like… smile. We crack jokes and everything,” Taylor said. “I’d be hanging with him outside of school and then we really got tight with each other.”
Friends said they were stunned by the news of Green’s death.
“He was sitting right ahead of me at graduation and we were just joking the whole time,” Hahn said. “And it’s just, he’s gone like that.”
