Fundraiser for high school sweethearts killed in crash

CHESTER, Ill. – A GoFundMe account has been established for the children of a Chester, Illinois couple who died in an accident over the weekend.

High school sweethearts Toree and Bret Chandler were driving eastbound on Route T in Perry County, Missouri Saturday, July 19 when the 2002 Jeep Wrangler 38-year-old Bret was driving veered off to the right side of the road when going around a curve, over-corrected, and traveled off the left side of the road. The vehicle flipped into a creek bed and hit several trees.

Bret and 33-year-old Toree died at the scene.

Toree's brother, Bryan Nortin, says on a GoFundMe page that his sister and Bret "were truly in love and enjoyed being parents" to 8-month-old Fallon and 6-year-old Damon.

Nortin has set up the GoFundMe page to start a college fund and to cover immediate needs for Fallon and Damon. The page has raised more than $20,000 in three days.

KFVS-TV reports a barbeque, car wash, and 50/50 raffle fundraiser will be held Aug. 2 at 1st Class Auto in Chester.

The Chandlers were laid to rest on Thursday.
