'Giftology', local author explains gifting gaffes

Before you know it--you'll be making your list and checking it twice!

EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. - John Ruhlin of Edwardsville isn't just a gift-giving expert, he wrote the book on it.

Ruhlin runs a firm specializing in executive gift packages for some of the biggest companies in the world. His clients include the Chicago Cubs, the St. Louis Blues, and appliance giant Electrolux.

"Forget about Christmas," jokes Ruhlin.

In his new book, 'Giftology', Ruhlin explains that a holiday season gift to a prized client or business associate will only get lost in the clutter.

Instead, send that cherished business contact a lavish, and unexpected, gift in the month of March.

"And include the family, a wife or husband," Ruhlin points out. "A nice set of knives, personalized with a family name, is a gift that will not be forgotten. That stands out."

Ruhlin's book take gift-giving to a scientific level, pointing ways you can enrich both business and personal relationships by simply adjusting your technique.

"It truly is better to give than receive," Ruhlin smiles.
