Good Samaritan survives brutal beating

The man and his girlfriend were attacked after trying to stop another attack.

A vicious assault lands a good Samaritan in the hospital.

It happened Sunday evening after a man and his girlfriend stumbled upon a possible assault and tried to stop it.  Rob Ludwig, 38 and his girlfriend were beaten with a tree limb as they tried to stop an attack last week on the 3700 block of Virginia Ave.

"This guy is just a good Samaritan who went out to try to help somebody, and gets assaulted himself. It's not acceptable," said Ted McCluskey, owner of Midwest Kickball. After hearing of Ludwig's good deed, McCluskey pledged to match all donations on Rob's GoFundMe account up to$1,000.

Ludwig sustained a head injury- and both he and his girlfriend were taken to the hospital.

Friday, Ludwig's 's story spread. A friend told Five On Your Side Ludwig had already survived not only Lymphoma, but also renal disease and two kidney transplants.

The condition of Ludwig's girlfriend is still unknown at this time. At last check, no arrests have been made in this case.
