Help arrives for veterans in STL

ST. LOUIS – Some help has arrived St. Louis for dozens of veterans in crisis.

NewsChannel 5 has reported for months about local veterans waiting months, and sometimes even years to see doctors.

A team of experts with the American Legion met with some of those veterans and their families Monday night. They're in town to help vets schedule appointments, get grief counseling, file benefits claims, and help with enrollment in VA health care.

"I'm not so certain the VA is answering my questions and being forthright with the questions that I do have answered. Not sure it's being cared for correctly," said a veteran named Leroy.

The American Legion Veterans Crisis Command Center runs from July 15 to 18 at the St Louis University School of Law Clinic. Tuesday's hours are 12 p.m. until 8 p.m.
