I-44 reopens downtown ahead of schedule

ST. LOUIS – Interstate 44 has reopened in downtown St. Louis, approximately eight hours ahead of schedule.

Crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation closed all lanes in both directions on I-44 between Broadway and the Poplar Street Bridge at 8 p.m. Friday to place girders over the highway as part of the CityArchRiver Park Over the Highway project.

The Eads Bridge was also closed to allow traffic to flow smoothly through the area.

MoDOT promised to reopen I-44 by 5 a.m. Monday, but reopened shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday.
