Iconic statue vandalized

ST. LOUIS - Nearly two weeks after a $50,000 facelift, the famous King Louis IX statue on Art Hill in Forest Park has been vandalized.

Police believe the incident occurred early Wednesday morning.

The statue, originally plaster, dates back to the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis. Crews applied a bronze coating on The Apotheosis of St. Louis, its official name, in 1906.

No other information has been released about the statue being vandalized.

The Parks Department was notified, and the investigation is ongoing.
