Granite City woman dies following car crash

GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KSDK) - A preliminary autopsy from the Madison County Coroner's Office has determined a different cause of death for a Granite City woman who reportedly died in a car accident.

Coroner Stephen Nonn said 44-year-old Tiney Hunt had died from a cardiac event and not from the car crash.

According to investigators, Hunt was riding in a car traveling southbound on Century Drive when she passed out and was unresponsive. The driver attempted to dial 911 when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a ditch on the east side of the roadway.

Hunt was rushed to Gateway Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

The driver was airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital. Her condition has not been disclosed. A third person in the vehicle was taken to Gateway Regional Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries.

The Granite City Police Department is investigating the crash and toxicology testing will be performed.

Funeral arrangements for Tiney Hunt are still pending.
