Illinois high school students arrested for gas leak hoax

WATERLOO, Ill. (KSDK) - A pair of Waterloo High School students were arrested after making numerous robocalls Thursday night to announce the school would be closed Friday due to a gas leak.

According to the Waterloo Police Department, the students obtained a student phone list and began making the calls around 9:40 p.m. Police and school administrators are continuing to investigate just how the students got their hands on that phone list.

Police will send their report to the state's attorney's office for consideration of charges.

Meanwhile, the school district will take administrative action against the students.

It is unclear just how many students did not show up to class because of the hoax.
