Woman accused of cancer scam to appear in court

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KSDK) - A woman who falsely claimed that she was dying of cancer is expected in St. Clair County Court later Friday morning.

According to Belleville Police, Alissa Jackson had claimed she was dying form Stage 4 ovarian cancer, despite not having the illness.

Multiple sources have told NewsChannel 5 that Jackson has been claiming to have cancer for two years.

In that time, police said Jackson was taking donations from people sympathetic to her story. Authorities said she scammed people out of at least $30,000.

Jackson has been charged with two felony counts of theft. She is expected in court for her arraignment at 10 am.
