Jefferson County judge arrested after crash

State Troopers say Judge Nathan Stewart was driving a car that ran off the road and hit a utility pole Tuesday night.

A Jefferson County Jude could face DWI and assault charges after he crashed his car into a pole Tuesday night.

A Highway Patrol crash report said Nathan Stewart was driving his Cadillac Escalade on Route BB in Jefferson County at around 9:20 when he drove off the road and crashed into a utility pole.

Stewart was taken into custody by police on suspicion of misdemeanor DWI and second-degree assault.

The passenger in the car was taken to the hospital for treatment, but Stewart refused treatment.

The prosecutor tells NewsChannel 5 he is still reviewing the case and has not decided whether to file charges.

Judge Stewart, running as a democrat, was up for reelection back on Nov. 8, but he lost the election.
