Loaded gun found in Berkeley Middle School bathroom

This is the second time a loaded gun was brought into a Ferguson-Florissant School district this year.

BERKELEY, MO. - An investigation is underway after a loaded handgun was found in a north county middle school bathroom Tuesday morning.

A student found the gun in a boys' bathroom on a toilet paper dispenser in at Berkeley Middle School just before 9:30 a.m., said Kevin Hampton, with the Ferguson-Florissant School District.

The student told school officials about the gun, and administrators notified parents. Hampton says students were not believed to be in danger and they were not sent home early.

School officials are working with Berkeley police to determine how the gun got into the school. If a student is found to be responsible, they could face the possibility of expulsion.
