Longtime member of St. Louis Fire Department dies

The fire department announced Neil Svetanics passed away. He joined the department in 1962 and severed as fire chief and commissioner for 13 years.

ST. LOUIS - A longtime member of the St. Louis Fire Department has died.

The fire department announced Neil Svetanics passed away. He joined the department in 1962 and served as fire chief and commissioner for 13 years.

Chief Svetanics retired in 1999, and joined the Lemay Fire Protection District three years later.

He worked as a fireman for 52 years.

Chief Svetanics was 77.
