ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – Brian Cannon, the man who shot Florissant Police Officer Mike Vernon in 2012, received two consecutive life sentences plus 20 years Friday morning.
A jury found Cannon guilty of burglary, assault and armed criminal action for the incident early last month.
In May 2012, Officer Mike Vernon responded to a burglary around 3:30 a.m. In the process of investigating the area, Vernon found Cannon, who in turn shot him three times, according to police. Other officers later found Cannon in a residential yard.
Vernon, a U.S. Army veteran, was taken to the hospital and has been paralyzed from the waist down since the incident. He now lives in Tennessee with his wife.
