Man's threats divert flight to STL

ST. LOUIS - An American Airlines Newark to Dallas/Fort Worth flight was diverted to St. Louis Thursday night after a man was observed making threatening messages.

Jeff Lea, a spokesperson for Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, says AA 1691 landed in St. Louis around 9:45 p.m.

The man was observed by another passenger making threatening messages on his cell phone. The observer notified airplane staff, and they made the decision to divert the flight to St. Louis.

Lea says the man was taken off the airplane in handcuffs and is being questioned.

The nature of the threats and who they were being made to is unknown at this time.

The flight departed about an hour later to continue on to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
