Mehlville names interim superintendent

ST. LOUIS COUNTY – The Mehlville School District has hired an interim superintendent for the 2014-2015 school year.

John Wolff, a spokesperson for the district, says 65-year-old Dr. Norman Ridder from Springfield, Missouri will replace Dr. Eric Knost July 1. Knost is leaving the district to become superintendent of the Rockwood School District.

Ridder has served as superintendent in Springfield for nine years, and has spent more than 40 years as an educator, including serving four years as an assistant professor of education at Creighton University.

His hiring was announced during Thursday's school board meeting.

In a videotaped message he said, "We are looking forward to working with the parents, the students, the staff and the community to build a better educational program for the children. We are coming into a very well-run system that really has its act together so I think we can take it to the next level and we can at least set the stage for the incoming superintendent."

Ridder is the second-oldest of 12 children and is the father of five children with his wife, Nadine.
