ST. LOUIS - Crews broke ground on a new MetroLink station in the Cortex area of St. Louis on Thursday afternoon.
The new station is being built along Boyle Avenue near the BJC Commons. The project is being funded by a $10 million federal grant and private money.
Metro says the MetroLink station is the beginning of a major project to improve infrastructure and transportation options for the region. That'll include the new Chouteau Greenway, an extension to the Central West End MetroLink platform, and a new MetroLink station between the Grand Station and the Central West End station.
The Cortex station is expected to be finished by next spring.
The construction project will support about 170 construction jobs and provide transportation for an estimated 13,000 permanent jobs in the Cortex Innovation Community and through the city's central corridor.
This is the MetroLink's first expansion since 2006.
