Mo. lawmaker wants stores to close on holidays

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Remember all of the buzz two months back about Black Friday shopping starting early and ruining the Thanksgiving holiday?

Store openings on Thanksgiving Thursday could soon be a thing of the past, if some Missouri lawmakers have their way.

Rep. Keith English of St. Louis County is proposing a bill that would force all retail businesses to be closed on Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter Sunday. He says the bill would help keep families together on holidays and give retail workers a break.

The opposition says the bill could force Missouri to lose out on some holiday shopping dollars to neighboring states.
