Riverview Gardens cancels classes after Moline Elementary suspicious package

The St. Louis County police deployed a bomb robot to inspect the package.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY - Students from Moline Elementary were evacuated Wednesday afternoon after someone placed a suspicious package on the front steps of their school.

According to Melanie Powell-Robinson, a spokesperson for the Riverview Gardens School District, the students were taken to Westview Middle School for the rest of the school day.

The Riverview Gardens School District has canceled classes on Thursday to ensure the safety of all staff and students.

Powell-Robinson says a person walked up to the front steps of the elementary school and left the package around 1:00.

The St. Louis County bomb and arson unit is investigating.

Buses will remain on their regular schedule and children who walk will not be released until they determine which route they will take.
