Mom's plea to avoid drinking and driving

Sharing her Thanksgiving in a hospital bed, one area mother is warning of the dangers of drinking and driving.

A mother of five spent Thanksgiving in the hospital after a suspected drunk driver slammed into her car.

During a holiday season that's known for food, family, and festivities, her family is sharing a message they want everyone to hear.

Trino O'Guinn's family is urging everyone to not drink and drive.

The St. Clair County Sheriff's office says a suspected drunk driver hit O'Guinn November 10 on Stolle Rd. The accident crushed her legs and trapped her inside.

O'Guinns only vehicle was wrecked in the crash.

A good samaritan bought a van for the family last Friday and now Mothers Against Drunk Driving is stepping in to help. They'll hold a fundraiser for the family in the next few months.

In a trying time, the O'Guinn's are still grateful to be able to share a Thanksgiving dinner together. If you would like to visit the O'Guinn's GoFundMe page, click here.

As for the suspected drunk driver, Anthony Duran Lopez, of New Baden faces felony DUI charges.  He remains in custody.
